Why commerce at an event like this can be a bad thing.....
Being an autodidact involves a lot of DIY ("do it yourself")-ING. The struggle and search for resources and information is an important part of living as a person who motivates their own learning. These are the values we are attempting to reinforce by putting on this event. Many so-called "educational products" thwart this process by limiting the scope of learning and having pre-determined outcomes.
Our vision for this day is one of genuine sharing and joint discovery without commercial distractions. While this may cost more in the form of conference fees which are unsubsidized by a vendor area, it is our belief that it will also yield a much richer reward in terms of the interactions which are possible in a more intimate atmosphere.
While it may not be possible in the future (should this event be mounted at regular intervals) to include more people and remain vendor-free, we are gratified that, we are able to continue to share this outlook with you in its purest form.
